StataNow Update September 2025

We are pleased to introduce the new features of StataNow 19.5.

1) Execute Selected Lines in the Do-file Editor
In the Do-file Editor, multiple selected lines can now be executed directly. After execution, the cursor automatically jumps to the next executable code line or block, skipping comments or blank lines.

2) Local Backups of Do-files
The Do-file Editor can now save backup files to an operating system-specific directory on the local computer – instead of in the same folder as the original document. You can find this option in the editor’s advanced settings.

3) Enhanced Grouping in Graphs
The graph bar, graph box, and graph dot commands now support the new assecondcategory option. This allows for better control over groupings: with multiple y-variables and an over() category, bars, boxes, or dots can be structured according to two criteria – first by categories and then by y-variables.

4) Local Average Treatment Effects (LATE)
With lateffects, local average treatment effects can be estimated for the subpopulation of Compliers. You can use various methods, such as IPW regression adjustment, kappa-weighted approaches, or covariate-balancing. Additionally, Assumption Checks like Overlap and Balance are integrated.

5) Additional VCE Options for Linear Models
The common linear regression commands in Stata now have expanded Variance-Covariance Matrix (VCE) options. These include, among others:

  • HAC and Driscoll–Kraay standard errors
  • HC2/HC3, also for clustered
  • Hansen corrections
  • Multi-Way Clustering
  • unstructured time covariances in Panel GLS

6) Change History Ribbon in the Do-file Editor
The Do-file Editor now displays changes in color. You can immediately see which lines have been newly edited and which have been reverted to their original state. This allows you to decide more quickly what should be saved.

7) Better Abbreviation of Long Variable Names in the Data Editor
Long variable names can now be displayed more flexibly. Various truncation schemes help to distinguish variables more easily.
